Sulphur Bluff Beta Club Attends
State Convention in Dallas

From SSISD

This weekend the Sulphur Bluff Beta Club went to Dallas for state competition, at the 54th Annual BETA Club Convention.

Eighteen students competed in 14 events.

Dylan Di Donato ran for state secretary. His campaign slogan was "Stand out with a 3D Life,"

as a play on the three D’s in his name. He will be giving a campaign speech, and the entire club will be doing a campaign
skit. The club also entered a scrapbook, a banner, and the service project competition.

Dillon Harred has been the primary artist for the scrapbook. Casey Gore was in charge of the banner. The
club is in competed against other clubs to see who has done the most service activities for their community.
Jackson Dailey entered in the individual talent competition with his yo-yo routine. Ryan
Watts, Erin Zeringue, Tyler Raine, and Landon Dorner were in the Quiz Bowl. Entering in the Character
Skit were Casey Gore, Sarah Williams, Becca Naylor, Ester Marquez, Amanda Fowler, Heather
Anderson, and Katelyn McDonald. Meagan Coberley was entered in Creative Writing. Darron Foster entered
English. Kaci Powers entered Science and entering Spelling was Cheyenne Bryant’s event.

Ester Marquez competed in Spanish.

The Beta Club has a long history of success at the state conventions, earning the
right to proceed to national competitions. The club has had the chance to go on to nationals in the
summer almost every year since the club’s inception. Attending as co-sponsors were Mrs. South
and Mrs. Hogue, along with Mrs. Bryant and Mr. Carr.

The trip was marred for the students when a sixteen year old BETA Club member fell to his death in the Hyatt Recency
Hotel in Dallas, on Saturday. The male student was from Whitewright, Texas, and has distant relatives in Hopkins County.
Sulphur Bluff students ask that everyone pray for the student's family!
