Sulphur Springs I.S.D. Purchases
Acreage For Future Growth & Expansion
by: Bobby McDonald
With future growth and expansion anticipated in Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County, the Sulphur Springs I.S.D. Board of Education and Administration completed the purchase of 53.39 acres of land, located on the southern edges of the city limits and strategically located on the new south loop to Sulphur Springs, as they signed closing papers on Thursday afternoon. The closing, held at Professional Land and Title Company in Sulphur Springs, represented a negotiation with Mrs. Abbie Gail Wisenbaker Rucker, owner of the property, who now lives in Willis, Texas.

Peaceful setting........the newly purchased property of Sulphur Springs ISD, is a beautiful piece
of land, consisting of 53.39 acres, formerly known as the L.C. Wisenbaker farm.
Mrs. Rucker lived on the farm during her adolescence and remembered a large house on the property, that burned. Her family later built another home on the property. The L.C. Wisenbaker family purchased the property in 1936 and moved there in 1937. Mrs. Rucker, one of eleven children, left Hopkins County, moving to the Houston area in the 1940's, and continued to visit her parents, who lived on the farm. Mrs. Rucker and her three children came back to Hopkins County, Thursday, for the closing.

Mrs. Rucker, members of her family, and Superintendent Patsy Bolton, with members of her
staff and the Board of Education, take a tour of the newly purchased property, on Thursday afternoon.
"Mrs. Rucker indicated to us that selling the family homestead for use as a school was the deciding factor in her making the sale of the property," expressed Patsy Bolton, Superintendent of Schools. "She was excited that the property would be used for education purposes."

"It's a beautiful peace of property and our architect has indicated that we could include two schools on the property," continued Bolton. "We will have approximately 927 feet of frontage on the new loop, and then we have access to the back portion of the property with a County Road all along the west side of the property. It is a long piece of property and would take very little work to begin construction on a school!"

Giant trees are located on the scenic piece of property purchased by Sulphur Springs ISD.
Mrs. Rucker and her family, along with the staff and Sulphur Springs ISD Board of Education, toured the property, Thursday, following the closing of the deal.

A time of celebration for future educational expansion, was celebrated on Thursday afternoon,
on the former L.C. Wisenbaker Farm, located on the southern segment of Sulphur Springs.
