Annual School Supply Drive
Begins Now
From CANHelp
Last year, our community donated enough school supplies to equip 453 children from 181 families with brand-new school supplies. Children from all Hopkins County school districts were benefitted by this effort.
It is that time of year again!
This school supply drive is no small task. It takes a large, coordinated effort over a thee week period to accomplish our goal of making sure that our children have basic school supplies on the first day of school. This year, CANHelp will partner with the Boys and Girls Club of Hopkins County to achieve this goal.
CANHelp will collect and be the drop off point for all school supplies. Boys and Girls Club will distribute the school supplies during the week before school starts.
On Friday, August 10th from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., CANHelp will host our “Pack the Bus” drive in the parking lot adjacent to Gilmer Street. The Sulphur Springs ISD will loan CANHelp a school bus that will be packed with the donated supplies. CANHelp will also use 100% of all monetary donations to purchase more school supplies.
For a list of needed school supplies, CANHelp has posted a “Pack the Bus” flyer on its website, www.canhelponline.org and the CANHelp page on Facebook.com. People may feel free to print this flyer and make copies of it.

“Last year, I was overwhelmed by the number of businesses that collected school supplies for us. Some businesses asked customers to donate supplies in exchange for discounts and other businesses asked employees to donate supplies,” said Adam Teer, CANHelp Executive Director. “I hope that businesses and individuals and churches will continue their support. There is no such thing as a ‘small’ donation. Each item donated will be a blessing to a family in our community.”
For families in Hopkins County that need assistance with school supplies this year may pick up applications and eligibility information from the Boys and Girls Club.
After the Pack the Bus drive, volunteers at Boys and Girls Club will pack the school supplies and distribute the supplies from August 20th through 24th. Eligible families can pick up the supplies during these dates from the Boys and Girls Club located at 411 College Street from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
“I’m very excited to partner with Boys and Girls Club this year,” said Teer, “Any time that our agency gets to work this closely with an agency with as much integrity and enthusiasm as the staff of the Boys and Girls Club, we feel blessed to be a part of their effort.”
