
South Locust Street Resident Charged With
Two Counts of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer

A three hour ordeal ensued on Monday night, when Sulphur Springs Police received a tip from a Veterans Administration official, that a man at a residence, in the 500 block of South Locust had indicated that he was suicidal. Police responded to the call and found the home in complete darkness. The contacted the man on the inside of the residence via telephone and attempted for two hour to have him come out of the residence. He would not.
The Special Investigative Team was called and fired tear-gas canisters into the residence to coerce the resident to come out. When, they fired the tear-gas into the residence the resident fired a pistol at officers. Following negotiations the man surrendered to police and no one was injured.
The resident at 509 South Locust Street was arrested and charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer and taken to Hopkins County Jail.
