Southern Gospel Music at It's Finest
In Civic Center, For the Weekend
by: Bobby McDonald
The names of the groups included "Trusting Hymn," "The Master's Touch," "Two Hearts," "The Master's Quartet," and "Pure Grace," and they converged on the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center for the 35 Annual Southern Gospel Music Festival, on Friday and Saturday night. They praised the Lord, gave thanks for their association among friends, and sounded a non-stop show form the stage of the Civic Center.
Over 40 Southern Gospel groups arrived in Sulphur Springs, to conduct the annual convention, that was hosted this year by the "Psalm 100" group from Sulphur Springs, headed by Buddy and Ina Gore.
Local Southern Group "Psalm 100" Hosted the Event.
Groups performed on both Friday and Saturday nights and featured veteran performers, as well as new groups that have joined the Southern Gospel Association.

"There was a lot of hand clapping and foot tapping," expressed Ina Gore, one of the hosts. "I think everyone had a great time in Sulphur Springs and were truly appreciative of the nice facilities that were featured here!"
"We usually travel to a different place for our annual convention," continued Gore. "This year we hosted the event in the Civic Center and everyone seemed to be pleased with the facilities and the sound equipment."

The groups came from all points in Texas and the surrounding states, to participate in this year's event, and presented some of the most beautiful gospel selections, that they perform at churches and other venues throughout the region.
"This was some great music!" exclaimed one of the local residents, attending the performances. "We came on Friday night and made our way back on Saturday night, just because the performance the first night was so good!"

"I don't know when I've heard such great groups," added another patron. "This was truly some of the best gospel musice you would hear anywhere!"
