
SSHS UIL Team Wins
2nd Sweepstakes Trophy at North Lamar Meet

The Sulphur Springs Wildcat UIL Academic Team sent a partial team to compete in the Dr. Tommy Eads UIL Invitational Meet at North Lamar High School this past weekend. Even though the team was cut significantly due to other conflicts, they still captured the second-place sweepstakes trophy.
In C-X Debate, the team of Gillan Boyer and Joshua Robertson placed sixth.
In Poetry Interpretation, Triston Pullen won first fourth and Danelle Parks placed fifth.
In Informative Speaking, Sean Allemang placed sixth.
In Computer Science, Shawn Tucker placed first, Karl Sehnert placed second, Ryan Moore placed fourth, Francisco Yanez placed fifth, and M. Hunter Allen placed sixth. The group also won first place team.

In Spelling and Vocabulary, Jacqueline Tovar Yanez placed first, Ashley Clegg placed second, Rachel Mattison placed third. They won first place team.
In Current Events, Ariel Gonzalez placed first.
In Literary Criticism, Maddie Millsap placed second and Jessica Boyd placed third. McKenzie Hohenberger helped the team win second place.
In Journalism, Taylor Hohenberger placed third in both Feature Writing and Headline Writing, Diana Aria placed second in News Writing and fifth in Headline Writing, and Lacey Jackson placed fifth in News Writing and sixth in Feature Writing.
In Accounting, Justin Mathews placed second and Abby Tipps placed sixth.
The math and science portion of the meet was TMSCA style where freshmen compete against freshmen only, sophomores compete against sophomores only, and so on.
For Number Sense, Carter White placed second and M. Hunter Allen placed fourth among sophomores, Parker Heath placed sixth among juniors, and Shawn Tucker placed fifth among seniors.
In Calculator Applications, and Justin Mathews placed fourth among seniors.
In Mathematics, M. Hunter Allen placed second and Ariel Gonzalez placed fourth among sophomores.
The Cats will compete in the Texas High School Invitational Meet at on Feb. 1-2, 2013.
