SSISD Board Meets, Monday
A regular meeting/budget work session of the Sulphur Springs ISD school board was held Monday, August 13, 2012.
No one requested to address the Board during Public Forum.
Betty Lawson reported on upcoming Parent Orientation activities on the various campuses.
Lawson presented the Elementary Student Handbook for the 2012-2013 school year.
Randy Reed presented the Middle School and High School Student Handbooks for the
2012-2013 school year.
Lawson presented the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) report for the 2011-2012 school year. Six of eight SSISD campuses met AYP, with the exception of High School and Bowie. High School did not meet AYP in math and Bowie did not meet AYP in reading. Bowie will enter Stage 1 School Improvement due to the rating and being a Title I campus. The district did not meet AYP in math.
Along with routine matters, the board approved the following:
A one year contract extension with Latson’s & Quill Corporation for general classroom materials/office supplies.

BUDGET/VISION CASTING WORK SESSION
Sherry McGraw, Business Manager, provided board members with an updated summary of the 2012-2013 budget for discussion. A proposed tax rate of 1.36048 (1.04 M&O and 0.32048 I&S) will be published in the local newspaper’s public notice section. A public meeting to discuss the proposed tax rate will be conducted on Monday, August 27, 2012. The Board is set to adopt the 2012-2013 tax rate and budget at the meeting.
Mr. Lamb discussed updating the district’s mission statement, vision statement and goals with the Board.
