State Fair of Texas Open
Thru October 23rd
by: Bobby McDonald

It's October and time for the State Fair of Texas. Many youth and adults from Hopkins County will be attending this year's 125th Annual State Fair of Texas, as they show livestock, enter contests, exhibit crafts, or just make the pleasurable drive to Dallas and "take in the sights" at this year's event.

As is a tradition of the State Fair of Texas, "Big Tex" will be there to greet you and a host of other attractions will be on display for a full day of fun! From auto shows, to livestock shows, concert performances, the Food and Fiber Building, and the Midway, just to name a few of the attractions, the fair offers something for everyone, daily through October 23rd!

And, haven't you been craving a "Fletcher's Corny Dog?" Or, perhaps it's time for a box of that traditional "Salt Water Taffy," known to "pull out your fillings! Well, Texas State Fair Food is an experience, just within itself! This year's Most Creative Award went to "Fried Bubble Gum," and the Best Taste Award was presented to "Buffalo Chicken in a Flapjack!" Other notable foods entered in the 2011 Food Contest and available at this year's exhibition, include: Deep Fried Salsa, Walking Tacos, and Kraut Balls. You're sure to find something to your liking as you taste and explore the world of State Fair Food! And, don't forget to get some pink, fluffy cotton candy!

Meanwhile, you'll want to "check out" this year's butter sculpture, that will be on display in the Arts and Craft's Exhibition Building, and you'll want to stop by the Automobile Building and "take in" the latest trends in new automobiles.

And, take a few minutes to relax at one of the concerts or music shows that will be on display, on the fairgrounds. It's a day of activity for the entire family.
