Stew Cooks Unite......
143 Pots and Counting For Record Contest
by: Bobby McDonald

It was a large crowd of stew cooks that made their way to the Southwest Dairy Museum, on Tuesday night, for the Stew Committee Meeting, as they received instructions, materials, and ingredient checks, for the 43rd Annual Hopkins County Stew Contest, to be hosted on Saturday, October 27th.

Many, many veteran cooks were in attendance, including last year's World Champion Cooks, Nancy Fite and Becky Berry. However, there were some new cooks anticipating their first attempt at cooking the Hopkins County staple. When Chamber CEO, Meredith Caddell, asked who was going to win, a resounding "Me!" was shouted from the audience.

Hopkins County Chamber CEO, Meredith Caddell, goes over rules and announces the sale of
this year's Stew Contest t-shirts, designed by Sharron Sink.

Caddell announced that 143 cooks had already registered, to make this a record number of cooks, and that she expected a few more to register in the next ten days.

Caddell went over the rules for the contest and asked the cooperation of cooks in making this the best contest ever. She also announced that some 30 vendors had signed up to participate in the first attempt at adding another aspect to the stew grounds. Additionally, it was announced that stew judges will judge the contest, this year, in the Hopkins County Ag Workers' Building, so that they can have more privacy in making the final selections of the championship brew!
"We're excited and looking forward to seeing everyone, again this year," expressed Caddell. "It promises to be a great day and everyone will be waiting to see who is the champion cook, this year!"
