Picture of the Year
For 2011

You voted, over 3,578 of you, and you picked "Pray For Rain" as the top photo of 2011. I just take the photos, but I guess the severe drought that we experienced in 2011 had rainfall and the many, many prayers that you lifted for it to rain, that "struck a chord" in your selection. I was traveling down a country road in Hopkins County, back in August 2011, when I saw the popular silhouette of the praying cowboy displayed by the entrance to a farm and felt that it depicted the thoughts of almost everyone in Hopkins County. At the time, wildfires were raging across Hopkins County and the entire state of Texas, local farmers and ranchers were selling their cattle because of lack of pasture and forage, and the area was under a burn ban, as well as residents were being asked to curtail their water usage.

This snow scene taken just south of Tractor Supply and across the road from Sulphur Springs Livestock, during a major snow storm that hit Hopkins County in January of 2011, garnered the second most votes in this year's voting. Hopkins County experienced two major snowstorms in 2011, this one in January and another one in February 2011.

You chose this photo taken from a hot air balloon, as I capture the scene of the balloon ahead of me, going down Highway 154, during the 2011 Hopkins County Dairy Festival. The early morning ride had begun at the David and Pam Black Farm, in the Shooks Chapel Community and afforded us a ride over the city of Sulphur Springs, early that morning in June 2011.
