Yes, I know...most of us need to eat less to lose a few pounds. However, it is also true that most people don't eat enough fruits and vegetables. They are low in sodium, saturated fat, and calories. Still not convinced? Here are the top 10 reasons to eat more - fruits and vegetables, that is!
10) Color & texture - fruits and veggies add color, texture and appeal to your plate. The more color you have on your plate, the more vitamins and minerals you will consume.
9) Convenience - fruits & veggies are nutritious in any form, whether fresh, frozen, canned, dried, or 100% juice, so they are ready when you are!
8) Fiber - fruits & veggies provide fiber that helps fill you up and keeps your digestive system happy.
7) Low in calories - fruits & veggies are naturally low in calories.
6) May reduce disease risk and improve memory function - eating plenty of fruits & veggies may help reduce the risk of many diseases, including heart disease, high blood pressure, and some cancers.
5) Vitamins & minerals - fruits & veggies are rich in these to help you feel healthy and energized, and to help your skin.
4) Variety - fruits & veggies are available in an almost infinite variety - there is always something new to try!
3) Quick, natural snack - fruits & veggies are nature's treat and they are easy to grab for a snack.
2) Fun to eat! - Some crunch, some squirt, some you peel... some you don't, and some grow right in your own backyard!
1) Great taste!
Try this for a great summertime treat: Creamy Blueberry Shake 2 1/2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries 2 small ripe bananas 1/3 cup honey 2 tablespoons lemon juice 2 cups lowfat vanilla yogurt Combine blueberries, bananas, honey, and lemon juice. Puree on high speed in a blender. Add yogurt and blend until thick. Makes 2 to 3 servings.
