It was approximately 150 local hunters and wild turkey enthusiasts that converged on the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, Tuesday night, to form a local chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation in Hopkins County. They join more than 580,000 members across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, who are devoted to the preservation of wild turkeys and their habitat, as well as promoting the orderly hunting of turkeys.

This beautiful painting was just one of the items included in Tuesday night's auction.

Shawn Roberts, NWTF regional director, was on hand to aid with Tuesday nights, banquet, live and silent auction, to promote the opening of the new chapter, here in Hopkins County.  The National Wild Turkey Federation is headquartered in Edgefield, South Carolina, and was founded in 1973. It is a national non-profit organization founded for the conservation and education of individuals interested in preserving wild turkeys. The organization also hosts JAKES, Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics, and Sportmanship, to serve in educating young people of the joys and pleasures derived from responsible hunting.

WITO, Women in the Outdoors, and Wheelin' Sportsmen, which provides all disabled people the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, through local chapter events, sponsored on their behalf, are highlights of the National Wild Turkey Federation. The organization also offers scholarships to youth and other services related to education and conservation.
