"The Power of One!"
"Twelve Angry Men"
Opens at Main Street Theater
by: Bobby McDonald
"Against all odds," "The power of one," "Standing alone," these are the comments that are being bantered about in a description of Reginald Rose's "Twelve Angry Men," as you join the audience in the setting of a 1959 jury room, where a nineteen year old defendent is charged with murder. Catch your breath and enjoy the drama that unfolds on stage, as the local troopers bring a delightful remake of the popular T.V. movie and theater production.
"Juror #8," played by Stan Shipp, stands alone as
the power of one!
Director Sherrie France introduced the play and encouraged patrons to "look for your friends and family members in the jury room," as the play progresses. "You'll find people that are just like the man next door, or the guy that works next to you, as their personalities develop," exclaimed France. "They're just a diverse group of men, who find themselves pitted together in a life and death situation!"

As the drama is presented, the human strengths and weaknesses of each juror rises to the surface and is unleashed around the room, where tempers flare and many times reason is overcome by personal prejudice. Meanwhile, the theater patron is asked to examine themselves and apply the logic of the arguments that are presented in the dialogue.

"It's a wonderful presentation and reminds anyone that has ever served on a jury of a like experience," indicated one patron, as they exited the theater, on Thursday night. "Most of us tend to forget the foundations that make our country so great, but this play reminds all of us that our nation was built on a group of principles that preserve our freedoms!"

"Reasonable Doubt" becomes a by-word that takes on new meaning, as each juror is asked to examine the evidence in the case and overcome some of their first impressions.

We recommend that you attend this great production and examine your own personality, as you see your friends and neighbors dramatize the human foibles that all of us sometimes secretly possess! Productions will continue Friday and Saturday nights, September 28th and 29th, with a Sunday matinee performance, on September 30th. Then, three more productions will be hosted on October 4th, 5th, & 6th. Night performances are at 8:00 p.m. Call the Main Street Theater for ticket information and reservations.
