Yantis' Ty Davis Signs to Play Basketball
For Brookhaven College
by: Bobby McDonald
Ty Davis is surrounded by family and coaches, as he signs with Brookhaven College, on Tuesday morning.
Many of us have watched Yantis' Ty Davis "grow up" on the basketball court in nearby Yantis, as he competed beginning in Little Dribblers and finishing an illustrious high school career in post season play, earlier in the year. "Davis has such an outstanding basketball I.Q.," expressed Coach Kevin Hurst, Basketball Coach at Brookhaven College. "It is evident immediately that he knows the game inside and out and knows what is happening all over the court. Along with his great work ethic and great physical attributes attracted us to him from the onset!"
Davis, the son of Tommy Davis, Jr. and the late Stacy Walker, is a native of Yantis and completed all of his schooling in the Yantis ISD, anticipating graduation in the class of 2012. "I'm excited about being the first athlete from Yantis to sign to play college ball and look forward to making my family, my community, and this area proud," related Davis. "It's an opportunity to do something that I love and I hope to make a good showing and continue playing basketball throughout my college career!"
"We're extremely proud of Ty and the many, many milestones he's accomplished both on and off the court," advised Coach Chris Hightower. "Ty is a leader on and off the court, realizes that character counts and will be an asset to any program that he plays for. He's just that kind of guy and has his priorities in the right place!"

"Ty's character was evident from the first meeting," continued Coach Hurst. "He's just one of those kind of guys that will continue to excel and mature into a great leader for us. He's just what we're looking for, in our program!"

Brookhaven College, located in Farmers Branch, posted a 26-6 record for the 2011-12 season and won the Conference Championship. But, Coach Hurst advised that they lost 8 of their top 11 players, who completed their associate degrees. "I'm looking for guys just like Ty to replace them and I think he will be a great asset to our program and our returning starters," expressed Hurst. "He's an extremely smart basketball player and that's what we're looking for!"
Congratulations to Ty and we'll all have the opportunity to see Brookhaven open their 2012-13 season in Tyler, at Tyler Junior College, next October!
Congratulations Ty and
Best of Luck in College Ball!!!
