SSHS "Shines" at UIL Invitational Meet

Sulphur Springs High School held their annual UIL invitational meet this past weekend at the high school.  Friday night events included Ready Writing as well as L-D and C-X Debate.  The remaining events were held on Saturday.  Schools were divided into two divisions for the meet.  Schools classified as 1A and 2A competed in Division I, while 3A, 4A, and 5A schools competed in Division II.  

 

The Division I sweepstakes winner was Chisum High School with 167 points.  Honey Grove High School placed second with 132 points, and Ore City High School placed third with 93 points.

 

The Division II sweepstakes winner was Sulphur Springs High School with 208 points.  New Boston High School placed second with 190 points, and Pine Tree High School placed third with 170 points.

 

In Social Studies, Cole Cable placed first, and Katy Mason placed third.

 

In Computer Science, Jeff Spears placed first individually.  Jeff, Taylor Ausbrooks, and Arthur Harbin placed second as a team.

 

 

 

 

In Headline Writing, Katy Mason placed third.

 

In Informative Speaking, Gabby Vaughn placed sixth.

 

In Spelling and Vocabulary, Lyndsi Bible placed second, Ashley Clegg placed third, and Andrew Wallace placed sixth.  Together they earned first place team.

 

In Literary Criticism, Katy Mason placed fourth, and Emily Mason placed sixth individually.  Katy, Emily, and Colby Carter earned second place team.

 

In Accounting, Kyle Mathes placed first, and Dakoda Painter placed third individually.  Kyle, Dakoda, and Alexus Dismukes earned first place team.

 

In Poetry Interpretation, Erin Echols placed fourth.

 

In Computer Applications, Courtne Anderson placed second.

 

In Current Issues and Events, Cole Cable placed second, Taylor Moore placed fourth, and Coby Steele placed sixth.  The trio earned first place team.

 

In Ready Writing, Leah Hayes earned fourth place, and Emily Mason earned sixth place.
