In probably one of the most memorable donations to the Hopkins County Veterans' Memorial, to date, Mrs. Louise Voss, a resident at Carriage House Nursing Home, gathered her family and had them to bring her to the downtown square, on Thursday afternoon, to make a $1000.00 donation. Mrs. Voss, a native of Hopkins County, made the donation in memory and honor of a number of her relatives, who are Hopkins County Veterans.

Mrs. Louise Voss, her son and daughter-in-law Jerry Don and Kati Voss, and her daughter Jackie Thornton, presented the check for $1,000 to the Hopkins County Veterans Memorial. Mrs. Voss’ husband, L.L. Voss, served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Her father, William E. Mitchell, was in the U.S. Army. Her son, Jerry Don Voss, served in the U.S. Air Force. Her three brothers were also veterans, with G.H. “Bud” Mitchell serving in the U.S. Navy, Thomas A. Mitchell serving in the U.S. Army, and Myron G. Mitchell serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Her brother-in-law, Murray Marvin Voss also served in the U.S. Navy. All these veterans are/were from Hopkins County and proudly served this country.
