DaQualin Evans Recieves
1st Annual Marion Wheeler Scholarship

submitted by East Caney Missionary Baptist Church

The 1st Annual Dr. Marion H. Wheeler, Sr. Pulpit Lawyer Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 was awarded to DaQualin "Boo" Evans, Sunday, April 27, 2008.

DaQualin Evans is an outstanding scholar with a 3.5 average and athlete and will be graduating this May from Sulphur Springs High School with plans to further his education in college.

This scholarship was presented to DaQualin by Attorney Marion H. Wheeler, Jr. on behalf of his late father, Rev. Dr. Wheeler who passed at the age of 90 in August 2005.  Pastor Wheeler was known as a world travelled Biblical scholar, writer, publisher and pastor.  Attorney Wheeler of Wheeler and Wheeler Law Firm in California traveled here to make this special presentation at East Caney Missionary Baptist Church during the morning worship hour, where Pastor M. LaVelle Hendricks worked with the family in the selection process.    The Wheeler Family whose roots in East Caney go back over 100 years, solicited funds for the scholarship throughout the Sulphur Springs area and within the family to honor the importance Pastor Wheeler placed on our young people furthering their education beyond high school.  Pastor Wheeler often shared the story of how he never allowed anyone to limit him or his family and that's why his son is a lawyer married to a lawyer and one of his daughters is a pharmacist married to a Doctor of Pharmacy.  He was an example of not being limited as he continued to study throughout is lifetime, receiving his PhD in Divinity at the age of 83 from Pacifica University.

Again, the Wheeler Family is honored to provide an annual scholarship(s) in honor of the late Dr. Marion H. Wheeler, Sr. as a living memorial to his legacy.  Congratulations, DaQualin Evans, for being the 1st recipient!
