"Sacred" White Buffalo Killed
at Nearby Hunt County Ranch
by: Bobby McDonald
Many of you will remember the story we covered on June 30, 2011, about the special ceremony, held at Lakota Ranch, northwest of Greenville, where a rare, non-albino, white buffalo calf had been born, and the rare animal was named Lightening Medicine Cloud.
Well, according to a confirmation by the Hunt County Sheriff's Department, the almost a year old calf, born on May 15, 2011, was slaughtered and skinned by vandals who entered the ranch and skinned the calf, as well as his mother. The incident is under investigation by the Hunt County Sheriff's Department, the Texas Wildlife Department, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Texas Rangers.
Arby Little Soldier, owner of the animals and Lakota Ranch, announced at a Noon Friday Press Conference that a $5,000.00 reward had been raised for information that leads to the arrest of those that are responsible for this act of violence.
No further information has been released as the investigation is continuing, in hopes of finding the perpetrators.
For additional information about the significance of this calf to the Native Americans of the U.S., please refer to our story posted on June 30, 2011.
