"A Bitter Disappointment"
To A Great Season for Wildcats,
Friday Night in McKinney
by: Bobby McDonald
It was a bitter disappointment for the Sulphur Springs Wildcats, their coaches, and fans, after going 5-0 in District play, to suffer a 70-33 loss to Wylie East, in the first round of the play-offs. However, the team can now reflect on the great accomplishments that they've made this year and "count the positives" that they've made as both a team and as individuals for the season.
The night began on a "sour note" with a successful Raider on-side kick, on the opening play of the game and things continued to get worse, as the Wildcats allowed ten successful touchdowns and extra points, and could only answer back with at total of 33 points, regardless of what they tried. It seemed like every time the Cats made a step forward, either a turnover or penalty woudl set them back two steps, throughout the night!
The Raiders had "definitely done their homework" and knew the weaknesses of the Cats, as they went about a successful game plan, that saw them leading at halftime 56-14. The Cats scored 19 more points in the second half, but could never get a handle on the game, and were past the point of "catching up" when they came back for the second half.
It was a bitter defeat for the Wildcats, especially the senior members of the team. However, there is always the life lessons learned and those things that will benefit the players in life, that they can carry with them, as they graduate. For the underclassmen, it can fuel a "grudge match" for next year, that can be a building block for future successes!
Congratulations, Wildcats, on a great season!
