Wildcats Defeat Arch-Rival
Mt. Pleasant in "Nail Biting"
Finish, Friday Night
by: Bobby McDonald
It was an interception by Day Day Jackson, in the last seconds of Friday night's match-up with the Mt. Pleasant Tigers, that gave the Wildcats and their fans the opportunity to breathe a little bit easier and realize that they had won the grueling battle. The Wildcats are now 1-0 in district play and 5-1 for the season.

The Wildcats "came out strong" and led 15-0 at the end of the first quarter. However, the Tigers showed no sign of "giving-up" and soon answered back with a touchdown, a two-point conversion, and PAT, during the second quarter. And, the Wildcat offense delivered another touchdown and a field goal, during the period, to lead by ten points, 25-15 at halftime.

"We knew Mt. Pleasant team was the type team that never gives up," expressed Head Football Coach and Athletic Director, Greg Owens. "They play hard to the last second, and like us, have an explosive offense that can be a threat at any time. Some who had watched both teams play had indicated that the match would be won in the last two minutes of the game, and you might say that it was!"

During the second half, with several threats from the Tigers, the Wildcats managed to accumulate another touchdown and PAT, to increase their points to 32. But, the Tigers led a string of offensive plays that "whittled away at the scoreboard, to come within three points of the Wildcats, when they scored two more touchdowns and completed the PAT's.
A key 4th down conversion by the Wildcats during the final minutes of the game, boosted the Cats' confidence, following a long and physical game. But, then the Tigers managed to "pick-off" Wildcat Ty Rollison and get control of the ball, with over a minute to play in the contest. They "marched" toward the goal line with a series of plays that had both Wildcat and Tiger fans standing up, in the stands. Then, Jackson managed the key interception, as the Tigers had run out of time-outs and were battling the clock. Jackson sealed the game for the Wildcats in a great victory for the season and one that gives the Cats a solid place, as they enter district play.

Mt. Pleasant is sure to remember this week for quite some time, as the 8th grade, freshman, and J.V. teams all delivered a "stinging" win, on Thursday night, with a "clean sweep" of the games, in Mt. Pleasant. And, to make the wins even sweeter, the Lady Wildcat Volleyball Team defeated the Lady Tigers in competition at the Middle School Gym, during the early hours of Friday night's football game!
Congratulations, Cats,
On A Great, Great Week!!!!
