A large crowd of Wildcat fans made their way to Rose Stadium, in Tyler, as they braved the heat and looked directly in the sun for the first quarter of play, to see the first game of the season. And, they certainly weren't disappointed. It turned out to be one of the hardest fought games fans had seen in a while and ended in one of those "heart stopping" finishes, in overtime!

A tough goal line defense thwarted a two-point conversion and the Wildcats brought home a 35-34 victory to start the season.

In after game comments, Coach Greg Owens told his team, "I'm always telling you to never give up and that each play is important. Well, tonight you won this game because of you never gave up and played until the very last!"

The young Wildcat team played hard and continued to "see-saw" back and forth on the scoreboard all night, but made a number of outstanding plays and showed the crowd the potential for a very exciting season!
