Yantis Catfish Festival Moved
To June for 2012
by: Bobby McDonald
Many of you have noticed the signs posted for this year's Yantis Catfish Fish Festival and noted that the dates have changed for 2012. I sat down with Yantis Mayor, Jerry E. Miller and visited with him about the change from the traditional July to June 23rd and 24th. "We just made the decision based on the weather, in hopes of attracting more people and making it easier on all of us who support and conduct the festival," expressed Miller. "The end of July is always some of the hottest weather here in Northeast Texas and we decided that it would be easier on the spectators, easier on the supporters and workers, the fisherman, and even that the fish would probably be biting better!"
Miller expressed that an opening became available with the tournament sponsors and "they seized the opportunity!" "Hopefully it will be cooler and everyone will have even a more enjoyable time!" continued Miller.

Miller also announced that longtime Yantis City Secretary, Tonya Norris, had been selected as this year's Parade Marshall. "Tonya does so much for the Yantis Community, as she serves as the City Secretary, is a member of the Yantis School Board, works as the caretaker of the Yantis Cemetery, and is just the type person that everyone goes to, to get things done!" proclaimed Miller. "It's with great pleasure that we'll be honoring Tonya and recognizing all of her hard work on behalf of others!"
Miller expressed that the Catfish Parade will be hosted at 4:00 p.m., on Saturday, June 23rd, followed by the Annual Yantis Volunteer Fire Department Fish Fry, at approximately 5:00 p.m. The Fishing Tournament on Lake Fork will be featured on Saturday, June 23rd and Sunday, June 24th, with awards being presented on the afternoon of June 24th.
Mark your calendars and make plans to attend this year's Catfish Festival, in Yantis!!!
