It took a trip to Princeton to prove it and some hard-fought battles on the court, but the Yantis Lady Owls are now the Area Champions, following their Friday night win over the Saint Jo Lady Panthers. The Lady Owls will advance to the Regional competition, next week, where they will face the winner of the Fruitvale-Bellevue match-up.

A large following of Yantis fans and supporters made the trip to Princeton for the 6:00 p.m. game, on Friday night.

The Lady Owls put the first points on the board, Friday night, but found themselves trailing by one at the end of the first period, with Saint Jo a 10-9 advantage. However, some great play and ball handling during the second period, found the Lady Owls "sitting pretty" at the halftime intermission, with a 25-17 advantage.

Fans "held their breath" and the coaches were "scratching their heads" as the Lady Owls came back with a "sluggish" third quarter, that saw Saint Jo coming to within two points of the Lady Owls and the Lady Owls only scoring three points. The Lady Owls led 28-26.

With the close ball game, it made for an exciting fourth period, when the Lady Owls "got back on track" and outscored the Lady Panthers by 7 points and taking the victory with a 41-32 score. An almost "flawless" effort at the free-throw line, help give the Lady Owls the victory and advantage.
