Yantis Senior Lunch Popular
Meeting Place For Local Residents
by: Bobby McDonald
"It's a great place to go for lunch and to find out what all is going on in the area," advises one of the seniors, who goes to the Yantis Community Center, almost daily. "The lunches are good, but the conversation and company from others in the area, is the most important part!"
The senior lunch program in Yantis began in March of 2009 and serves lunches five days a week, Monday-Friday, excluding holidays, at the Yantis Community Center. An average of approximately 60 people eat at the center, for lunch each day, where two shifts are provided, one beginning at 11:00 a.m., and the other beginning at 12:00 noon.
The program has become a popular meeting place for local seniors, where they can visit, make friends, and "catch-up" on all of the local happenings in the Yantis area.
"I live alone and it isn't any fun to eat by yourself," allowed another participant in the Yantis program. "It's just so much trouble to fix a sandwich or something and then lonely to sit down and eat it alone, when you can come to the center and visit with friends and share lunch!"

"We enjoy the company of meeting with others in the area and sharing our lives and conversation, almost daily," expressed other participants. "And, who wants to cook small meals all day long and have to clean-up the mess, when you can have a fun time coming to the center!"
"This is where we get out and find out what all is going on in the neighborhood," inserted another participant. "We usually get up and eat an early breakfast, drink coffee through the morning and get our chores done, and then come to the center for lunch, where we can visit with everyone, and it makes for a much, much shorter day!"
The program in Yantis offers conversation, a healthy meal, and on several occasions provides special entertainment, games, and just "old-fashioned visiting, with your neighbor!"
"It's a great program, and we hope to continue to enjoy it!" advised another one. "It's a vital part of our day and we hope it continues to bond our community, for a long, long time!"
