Young Farmers Host Tractor Driving
and Goat and Calf Scramble
by: Bobby McDonald
Events in the Hopkins County Fall Festival that have been a part of the annual celebration since its inception, 43 years ago, were conducted by the Sulphur Springs Young Farmer Chapter, as they hosted their Goat and Calf Scramble and FFA Tractor Driving Contest. These events were hosted the first year of the annual festival as something for the kids to do and an event to test the skill of FFA members at driving a tractor safely. Well, 43 years later, we still have kids that enjoy running calves and goats for a prize, and we still need qualified Tractor Drivers in Hopkins County!
Thursday night's event was hosted in the Civic Center Arena in conjunction with the Cover Girl events and named a number of local youth as winners. Scramble and FFA Tractor Driving winners were:
Six and under Goat Scramble winners were: left to right, Rhett Newsom, 1st place;
